The simple observations of every day life brings much pleasure to the reader.and resonates in our own lives, if that makes sense. ( I will always return to Tel-boy.)
I well remember that Anzac Day when we all stood outside at dawn and someone up the hill near Maupuia played the Last Post.
But this time it was George who made me laugh out loud, it was a perfect end to a wonderful read. Happy Sunday!!
I laughed out loud just a few sentences in, thank you.
I highly recommend watching the elephants at the San Diego zoo forming an alert circle during today’s earthquake . There’s something very tender about watching them protect their young….
For a Wellingtonian who’s lived in Karori and visited often a friend in Hatton St it’s oddly compelling to enter into the dailies of someone I don’t know who’s calling up these places and sharing her Wellington life.
Guess who read this at 4am UK time and has come back to comment? Love this montage, Leah. The dog in the backpack sounds like the one having the most chill time of it!
Those shoes definitely fell off a car roof after being put there by a tired mum after daycare pickup. Speaking from experience.
Aw, Alice. I remember those years x
Beautifully written Leah - at times an expose, at others an love song. Change the street names, and the birds, and we could be anywhere in New Zealand

Dunnnng beetle. Snortle.
All the important domestic details, beautifully rendered. (I’ll try not to take the switching off RNZ personally!)
Another great read Leah. Am new to your substack but after just a few weeks it’s now on my essential reading list. Thank you!
CHARLOTTE. I'm delighted to know this!
All the way from Sydney. Makes me very nostalgic for Wellington though…
There is a very loud ruru in our bit of Karori....the other day I would have sworn it was outside the window..
Aren't they bold? Ours starts up really early each evening. Before the pure dark sometimes
Love it! From Auckland but used to live in Karori.
You take a little piece of it wherever you go, Greg!
Wonderfully evocative, Leah. I used to live there, and I saw it again, through a different lens.
loved the sloth bit, laughed out loud! See you at circa xx
