Oh this is brilliant but I can't believe you hadn't facebooked Halloween DOGS. They are AMAZING in their costumes. Next year...next year... We loved living down 70 steps in Northland as it put children off, and we had so many lollies to eat over the next weeks. xx

Linda - me thinks you lived in my (very) old old house.

The very lovely 12 Northland Road? 20 happy years there, miss it dreadfully.

Yes our lovely first NZ house - the real estate agent told us all those little white flowers were Lilies of the Valley - we never could get the onion weed under control.

We just pretended they were wild garlic. Were you there before all the alterations? There was a very Laura Ashley kitchen - dark floral wallpaper. We added 2 extra skylights and painted it white. Actually if you go online you can see the photos of it that were used when we sold it.

We lived there in the late 70s. Compressed books stacked next to the rotting piles under the house, a roof that was lace-work in sections, the walls were mostly scrim. Some days the only winter sunlight we got was reflected off the windows on the houses on Upland road. Lot’s of work, no Laura Ashley, but oddly, we loved it.

In the late 80s it was completely renovated. It was beautiful. Very light and made the best of the sun - still lost in by lunchtime in winter but got it first thing and lasted till 5 in summer. You should look at the photos!

Very similar when we lived in Seatoun - I filled an oversized laundry basket with sweets and sat in our doorway repeating the phrase “You can have ONE each” until I either ran out of sweets or went mildly insane. We had a lot of Wētā Workshop folk living by us and the adult costumes were often incredible. One year my artistic son drew monsters in chalk all over our garage door - turns out chalk leaves an impression on softer wood and despite it being repainted the new owners may still be able to see appropriately ghostly traces every time they park their cars

This is absolutely brilliant! I thought it was bad for me , had about 10 families knocking , and I live in London but in a cul de sac dead end road. Your street reminds me of a street around the corner though 😂 the video was great , but what time does it get dark where you are, everyone in my area waits till it’s dark to trick or treat 😄never in the light

Hi Francis! Over here, being spring, it doesn't get dark until towards 8pm. I'm THRILLED to have a reader in London!!!

We live across the road from you (similar story, no-one brought home the full implications of buying into this neighbourhood); brought a three-year-old bee out for shrieking and polite lolly taking; and can confirm your makeup was the BEST!

I think I remember your little bee! Richard, WHY did nobody TELL US?

Nice to be the opening act in the vid Leah! Halloween is my favourite “festivities”…though as much as I enjoy the actual day it’s EXHAUSTING leading up to it…11 years of it!

Your garden reigns supreme in my opinion, Phirum. Eleven years - I don't know how you've found the puff. I know exactly what you mean re mixed emotions. It's stressful until it's wonderful

We ran out of sweets about 6pm after the first kids arrived at 3.30pm. Husband is the Halloween expert here, being an American. He set everything up then vanished. He'd nipped to the shops for cat meat without telling me and I had to deal with a WiFi outage, a surprise visit from the builder and trick-or-treaters while trying to finish work. He nearly became a real corpse on the lawn when he returned!

I’ve got the Nostalgia Leah. But only a little bit. Each 31/10 I am so thankful for my very long havelock north driveway which keeps the hoards away!

Wow! 🤩 We buy candy every year and no one comes (we don’t have children though) so I can’t imagine the stress of living in a Halloween famous house. 🤣 Love your costume. “You scroll real estate ads, fantasizing about living somewhere that doesn’t observe Halloween.” 🎃😅
