I believe you would also enjoy Gavin Pretoria- Pinney’s ‘A Cloud a Day’, which is gorgeous. It’s worth a search.
You also need to factor in a road trip to inland Canterbury. Great clouds, and much more variety than we tend to get in Auckland and Wellington. Lenticulars nearly every time!
Thanks so much for this! I suddenly find myself gazing upwards looking at sometimes inopportune or inappropriate moments. Eg injury time at the Wellington Phoenix opening game, score locked at 1-1, and I'm looking west at the clouds over the hills and thinking 'I should take a photo of those and send them to Leah...'
I love that line about the overhead ballet - beautifully evocative.
I think the most difficult part of being an expat (not that I consider myself one anymore) is that the times everyone you love most are even in the same time zone are (if ever) achingly too rare but most often impossible, and you never randomly meet people who knew you in the time of your life before you came here.
PS The billowy white clouds over the Eastbourne hills yesterday were a stunning backdrop to the otherwise bluest harbour sky - thanks for reminding me to look up.
Ah, read last night and was too snoozy to comment, but really loved it. "How nice is that? How much do you want to be friends with these people? I’d like to go there for a loving welcome and a chew, and not take the dog." Haha! I felt a bit like that the other day after finally finding a vet that doesn't stress our 12-year old dog out. Such a warm and welcoming team.
What beautiful writing! Such wisdom about the fleeting nature of life, beauty, art. “Nobody can vouch that it was ever there. Only me. This is intimacy of the truest kind - the universe handing you a tiny gossamer gift that dissolves on arrival.” 🫶🏻
Well done to the dog-nutritionist! (I feel my reputation is at stake each time I post a poem on FB, IG or X for all of half a dozen beating hearts lol.) Love your posts, Leah! X
You are a force and must never stop. Love YOU. Also, very envious of the lovely writers' festival coming up in ye olde Queenstown. Would love to be there to clink glasses with you x
Oh yes please! A visitor from Karori! I'm at the pre-performance nervous stage and even went and had a salon haircut in preparation! I now have every kind of bang(s) possible lol. Love YOU.
I want that cloud book, I cracked up when I saw it but then actually thought , this is a bit of me ! I’m always getting lost in clouds and find shapes in them , I’m gonna treat myself to a cloud book 😄

Oh, wow. What I wouldn't give for a stacked lenticular! Thanks for the tip, Jan x
Wow ! Clouds ! Yes !
Joni Mitchell wrote (and sang) "I've looked at clouds from both sides now...."
Maybe you can find a third way of looking at them ?
Gary McC..
Serious cirrus going on over Wellington today!
I LOVE this!!!!

What a lovely message. Thank you!
I love watching clouds but lack detail info on what the names are...
