my least favourite time of year this windless cold when I wish the weather report had been more specific about exactly what they meant by a 'three layers day'
I love your writing so much, and the glimpses into your life. Thanks for sharing it and making me feel better about things.
Having shifted to Wellington in February, we're facing our first winter here and people keep shaking their head when we ask what it will be like! So far we have noticed that things don't dry well - clothes, the deck, our hair, and we keep getting our clothing wrong for the weather that day (or hour). Yet we still prefer it to the decades of hideous heat and humidity of Auckland, and the horrible fogs and frosts of my teenage years on the Hauraki Plains too. I guess we'll know for sure by the end of winter!
We often forget how sunny and settled May can be in Wellington. But gah! The washing only fully dries in the height of summer - imagine living somewhere reliably dry! We’d be different people!!
I’m delighted the updates make you feel better as that’s absolutely my hope 🧡
Even Cher would laugh at your friend's joke, she's such a good egg. Which reminds me, must reserve her book from the library. Look forward to reading your latest Listener column about our beloved RNZ Leah, and hope you all feel better soon.
There does seem to be some lurgy going around. Hope your household is better soon! We have two distinct colds here. One picked up in Montreal and the other one in Wellington.
Dentists seem to work under a different model here in NZ. There are a bunch of practices in Ontario where the dentist owns the clinic, manages a bunch of hygienists, and comes in for a peek at the patients occasionally. My dentist there even brings in a visiting dental specialist from a small nearby town to do things like complicated extractions and implants. Though I did go to the specialist's office to finish the implant. But it was billed through my dentist.
Also when I was having a gap in my teeth filled, my dentist was chatting with her assistant about how doing nails was appealing: nothing goes wrong. Gee, I sure hope nothing goes wrong with my thing!
Yep I have a full set of teeth again (minus wisdom teeth which I haven't had for 30 years), got the implant just the day I left for Wellington. The tooth had been dodgy for a while but broke when I was eating quiche in Auckland.
Nice post Leah

Brilliant writing as ever, Leah.

The wandering dog was probably on 'I Love Karori' on Facebook :-)
Dog saviour! (What was that driver thinking?) Great read, Leah. And Cher at 80 made me laugh.
Brightened up this grey blah day down here no end xx
Happy Friday, Leah, and thanks for the chortles xx
Hello Julie! I’m glad you had a giggle x
I’ve just read your column (for want of a better word) for the first time and though it’s a bit parochial – I live in Whakatū – I love it! 💋
Renee! How lovely to have you here!
And yes, I’m afraid I don’t get out much
I like your friend Usha. She's funny. So are you. Have a great weekend.
She’s an absolute riot and I love her texts!
You too, Alan xxxx

I’d have loved to have listened in. Hahaha!
You can get horrible nail infections from pro manicures. I hope your teeth are alright

QUICHE?

Brilliant writing as ever, Leah.
